Our methodology
Strategy first. Then the work that makes it impossible to ignore.
Awesome Sauce is a strategy-first creative studio. We work out what your brand should stand for before we design a single thing, and then we craft every touchpoint to prove it. This is how we do it, phase by phase.
In short
What is the SAUCE Method?
The SAUCE Method is Awesome Sauce Creative's five-phase way of building brands: Study, Architect, Uncover, Craft and Evolve. Research leads to strategy, strategy leads to one clear creative idea, and that idea is crafted into everything your customers see.
Most agencies start with the logo, the feed or the ad. We start with the business: who you're really competing with, what your customers actually value, and what you can credibly own. Design decisions then stop being matters of taste. Each one has a reason you can explain to your partners, your team and your investors.
The method is the same whether we're building a new brand, repositioning a family business, or launching a product line. Only the depth of each phase changes.
The five phases
From first question to finished brand
Phase one
Study: understand before we act
The question: what is really going on in your business, your category and your customers' lives?
Briefs describe symptoms. Sales are flat, the brand feels dated, the new product isn't moving. Study is where we find the cause. We listen to the people who run the business, the people who buy from it, and the people who chose a competitor instead. We read the category the way a customer meets it: on a shelf, in a search result, in a WhatsApp forward.
What we do
- Founder and leadership interviews
- Customer, dealer and lost-customer conversations
- Competitor and category mapping
- Audit of every current brand touchpoint
- Search, social and AI-answer analysis
- Cultural and regional context, including Tier-2 and vernacular nuance
What you receive
- Discovery report with the key findings
- Category map showing where competitors cluster
- Customer insight summary in their own words
- Brand touchpoint audit
- A short list of strategic opportunities
Phase two
Architect: decide where to win
The question: who are we for, what do we promise, and why should anyone believe us?
Strategy is a set of choices, and choosing means leaving things out. In Architect we turn the findings into a brand strategy you can hold in one page: the audience you'll prioritise, the position you'll own, the promise you'll keep and the personality you'll show. Nothing gets designed until this is signed off, because every later decision is measured against it.
What we do
- Strategy workshop with the leadership team
- Segmentation, targeting and positioning
- Brand purpose, promise and values
- Personality and tone of voice
- Brand architecture for sub-brands and products
- Message hierarchy by audience
What you receive
- Brand strategy document
- One-page brand platform
- Positioning statement and proof points
- Tone of voice principles
- Brand architecture map
- Naming, where needed
Phase three
Uncover: find the idea
The question: what single idea will make this strategy memorable?
A strategy tells you what to say. An idea makes people remember it. In Uncover our creative team looks for the one thought that can carry the brand across a logo, a pack, a reel and a hoarding. We present two or three distinct creative routes, never a wall of variations, and show exactly how each one serves the strategy you approved.
What we do
- Creative exploration from the strategy
- Mood and reference territories
- Two or three distinct creative routes
- Early application tests on real touchpoints
- Quick checks with customers where useful
What you receive
- Creative routes presentation
- The central brand idea in a sentence
- Each route shown on packaging, social, signage or web
- A recommendation, with reasons
Phase four
Craft: make it real, make it right
The question: how does the brand look, sound and feel everywhere it appears?
Craft is where the idea becomes a working system. Typography, colour, logo, photography, motion, language, packaging, website and launch content are built to the same rules, so the brand holds together whether it's on a ₹10 sachet, a site hoarding or a Dubai trade-show stand. Detail matters here: legibility at shelf distance, how the logo survives a WhatsApp thumbnail, how the voice sounds in Hindi.
What we do
- Identity design and refinement
- Typography, colour and graphic system
- Photography and video art direction
- Packaging, print and environmental design
- Website design and content
- Launch campaign and social templates
What you receive
- Final logo suite and all master files
- Brand guidelines
- Core assets ready for launch
- Templates your team can use
- Production-ready artwork for vendors
Phase five
Evolve: launch, learn, sharpen
The question: is the brand doing its job, and what should change next?
A brand isn't finished at launch; that's when it meets the market. In Evolve we help you roll it out, train your team and vendors to use it, and watch how it performs. Then we keep sharpening, through quarterly reviews or as your ongoing creative and marketing partner across social, performance, PR and content.
What we do
- Launch planning and rollout
- Brand training for staff, dealers and vendors
- Social, Meta Ads, PR and content to the new system
- Brand and business measurement
- Quarterly brand reviews
What you receive
- Launch plan and rollout checklist
- Team training session
- Monthly performance reporting
- Quarterly review with recommendations
Principles
Six beliefs behind every project
The phases are the method. These principles are why it works.
Diagnose before you design
A beautiful answer to the wrong question is still the wrong answer. Research comes first, every time.
One idea, many expressions
Strong brands repeat one clear thought in many forms. We'd rather go deep on one idea than wide on ten.
Craft is strategy made visible
Type, colour and words are where customers actually meet your strategy. We treat every detail as a strategic decision.
Tier-2 is not second-tier
Brands from Lucknow, Kanpur or Varanasi can compete nationally and abroad. We build them to that standard from day one.
Reasons over opinions
Every recommendation comes with the reason behind it, so decisions are made on evidence, not on who spoke last.
Small, senior teams
The people who run the workshop are the people who make the work. Nothing important is handed down the line.
Ways to work with us
One method, four ways in
The phases stay the same. How deep each one goes depends on what you need.
Brand sprint
A focused, compressed run of all five phases for one clear problem: a product launch, a sub-brand, a repositioning check.
Typical length two to four weeks.
Full brand build
The complete method, from discovery to launch-ready guidelines, for new brands and full rebrands.
Typical length eight to fourteen weeks.
Strategy partner
Study and Architect only, for teams with strong in-house design who need sharp strategic direction.
Typical length four to six weeks.
Creative studio retainer
Ongoing Craft and Evolve: social, campaigns, packaging, content, Meta Ads and PR, all built to your brand strategy.
Typical length monthly, reviewed each quarter.
The difference
Execution agency vs strategy-first studio
Both make things. They start in different places, and that changes everything that follows.
| Question | Strategy-first studio | Execution-led agency |
|---|---|---|
| Where it starts | Your business, customers and category | The deliverable on the brief |
| First thing you see | Findings and a strategy | Design options |
| How creative is judged | Against an agreed strategy | Against personal preference |
| Number of routes | Two or three, each with a reason | As many as it takes |
| Who leads | Strategist and creative director together | Account manager |
| After launch | Measured, reviewed and refined | Next brief |
Working together
What we'll ask of you
Good brands are built with clients, not for them. Here's what makes the method work on your side.
- A decision-maker in the room
- The person who will approve the brand attends the strategy workshop and the creative presentation.
- Honest access
- Sales data, customer contacts and the reasons behind past decisions, including the ones that didn't work.
- Consolidated feedback
- One round of combined feedback per milestone, rather than separate notes from every stakeholder.
- Time at the right moments
- Roughly a day in total across Study and Architect, then milestone reviews.
- Patience with phase one
- Research can feel slow when you want to see design. It's the part that makes everything after it faster.
What we commit to
Clear timelines and named people for every phase. A reason behind every recommendation. No surprises on scope or cost; any change is agreed before work begins.
And full handover: strategy documents, master files and guidelines are yours to keep.
FAQ
Methodology: frequently asked questions
What is a strategy-first creative agency?
A strategy-first creative agency decides what a brand should stand for, who it is for and why it should win before it designs anything. Every logo, campaign or website is then judged against that strategy, rather than against personal taste or trends.
What is the SAUCE Method?
The SAUCE Method is our five-phase methodology: Study (research), Architect (strategy), Uncover (the creative idea), Craft (the brand system and assets) and Evolve (launch, measurement and refinement). Each phase ends with a client sign-off before the next begins.
How long does a full branding project take?
A complete brand build from research to launch-ready guidelines typically takes eight to fourteen weeks, depending on the number of products, markets and touchpoints. Focused brand sprints for a clear, narrow problem can run in two to four weeks.
Why should I pay for brand strategy before design?
Without a strategy, design decisions become matters of opinion and are usually redone. A clear strategy shortens creative rounds, keeps every team and vendor consistent, and gives you a reason for each choice you can explain to partners, investors and staff.
Can you skip the strategy phase if we already have one?
Yes, if it is current and specific. We review existing strategy work in a short validation step, keep what holds up, fill gaps, and move to the creative phases sooner.
How many design concepts do you present?
Usually two or three distinct creative routes, each built from the agreed strategy and explained in terms of how it serves it. Fewer, more considered routes lead to better decisions than a large number of variations.
Do you still provide execution such as social media, ads and websites?
Yes. Social media, Meta Ads, websites, packaging, content and PR remain part of the studio's work. The difference is that execution now follows the strategy and creative system set in the earlier phases, so every channel builds the same brand.
How is a strategy-first studio different from a management consultancy?
A consultancy typically ends with recommendations. A strategy-first creative studio carries the strategy through to the idea, the design system and the assets in market, and stays accountable for how the work performs.
How do you use AI in your process?
AI tools help speed up research synthesis, search and audience analysis, and early exploration. Strategic judgement, creative ideas and final craft are done by people, and nothing generated by AI is presented as final work without human review and refinement.
Do you work with small and mid-sized businesses?
Yes. The method scales from a focused brand sprint for a growing business to a full brand build for a multi-market company. Many of our clients are founder-led and family businesses in Tier-2 India preparing for their next stage of growth.
Start with Study
Every good brand starts with a better question.
Book a strategy session with our founding team. We'll talk through your business, where it's stuck, and which way into the method makes sense.
